Objectives: The purpose of this program is to assist States and Native American Tribes (including Alaska Native Villages) and Tribal Organizations [Tribes] in efforts to increase public awareness and support primary and secondary prevention of family violence, domestic violence, and dating violence; and assist States and Tribes in efforts to provide immediate shelter and supportive services for victims of family violence, domestic violence, or dating violence, and their dependents. The term "State" means each of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the territories of Guam, American Samoa, the United States Virgin Islands, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
