Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Homevisiting Grant Program - Rhode Island Department of Health 3 Capitol Hill, Room 302 Providence, RI 02908 Sara Remington sara.remington@health.ri.gov 401-222-5946 (p) 401-222-1442 (f) www.health.ri.gov $8,128,877 Purpose: The Rhode Island Department of Health’s Family Visiting Program and Local Implementing Agencies (LIAs) will engage and retain pregnant individuals and families with young children in high-quality, voluntary, family visiting services that are implemented with fidelity. The Family Visiting Program will continue to implement Healthy Families America statewide and Parents as Teachers in some high-need communities. Matching federal funds will be used to support Healthy Families America family slots. Goals and Objectives: Goal 1: Rhode Island’s Family Visiting Program (RIFVP) will continue to implement strategies that support the engagement of pregnant individuals and families with young children experiencing substance use disorder. Objective 1: Support Peer Recovery Specialists in referring and sustaining enrollment in MIECHV programs. Objective 2: RIFVP staff offer family visiting Plans of Safe Care to families that deliver a marijuana-exposed newborn. Goal 2: Promote infant safe sleep to reduce infant mortality. Objective 1: Use RIFVP safe sleep data to inform family visitor training, messaging and strategies. Goal 3: Partner with initiatives within the Rhode Island Department of Health to promote maternal health. Objective 1: RIFVP staff and LIAs will promote HEAR HER Campaign with new mothers. Objective 2: Expand data collection to capture additional reasons/barriers to accessing maternal health care. Approach: Healthy Families America will be provided to 1,024 families in Central Falls, Cranston, Lincoln, Newport, North Providence, Pawtucket, Providence, Warwick, West Warwick, Woonsocket and Washington County and surrounding communities. Parents as Teachers will be provided to 110 in Central Falls, Cranston, Pawtucket, Providence Warwick, Washington County and West Warwick. The RIFVP will contract with seven LIAs to provide Healthy Families America and three LIAs to provide Parents as Teachers. The source of non-federal funds the RIFVP used to meet the federal matching requirements are internal RIDOH funds. The RIFVP is using federal matching funds to support Healthy Families America family slots.
