Wisconsin, a previously ATR-funded applicant, proposes a significant expansion of its WIser Choice project. Wisconsin will continue to serve: 1) the general adult and 2) criminal justice populations of Milwaukee County, while expanding to 1) serve three new client populations (representing 42.5% of all those served); 2) residing in four additional counties and 3) adding new types and providers of services. The project will serve 2,356 persons annually, 9,424 over four years. WIser Choice will be implemented by the Department of Health Services (DHS) in its Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (DMHSAS); in collaboration with Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division (BHD), Waukesha County Department of Health and Human Services (WCHHS) Clement J, Zablocki Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC), Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC); and Faith Partnership Network. Wisconsin's expansion includes I) Client Population. WIser Choice will expand to serve three additional service populations: a) Veterans and their families, with an emphasis on Wisconsin National Guard (WING) returning from Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF); b) Participants in county Alcohol/Drug Treatment Court programs; and c) Individuals involved in county Intoxicated Driver Programs (IDP). 2) Geographic Areas of high need and readiness to implement. WIser Choice will expand to serve veterans in Waukesha, Ozaukee, Racine and Washington (in addition to Milwaukee) Counties; as well as persons enrolled in Alcohol Court and IDP in Waukesha County. 3) Services Provided. WIser Choice will offer a range of peer-to-peer services, primarily delivered by veterans for veterans. In addition, three new evidence-based services will be added.
