There is a partnership with the UAB School of Medicine for educational purposes. However, all fiscal and operational management is handled by CMC alone. Year Program First Began Training Residents: 2013 Organization website address: www.cahabamedicalcare.com Brief Overview of the Residency program: The Cahaba - UAB Family Medicine Residency is an ACGME-accredited 16-16-16 -8 Family Medicine Residency with four tracks serving rural and urban-underserved Alabama, utilizing a 3-year Longitudinal Curriculum (LIC). The rural training program was established in 2013 and the urban training program was established in 2018, with the Highlands and Frontier programs recently being added in 2022. CMC is proposing to fund the study of the educational and graduate outcomes of comprehensive, fully integrated (but optional) 4-year residency training in Family Medicine. The goal of this initiative is not to simply add more time but to focus on how extended, tailored curricula can accelerate the development of clinical mastery and provide advanced skills not typically included in Family Medicine residency training that are ne
eded to meet the changing needs of society. Residents will train in advanced competencies that will improve patient outcomes and increase the workforce of primary care physicians to meet the needs of underserved communities. Main primary training sites: Cahaba Medical Care - Centreville (Bibb County, AL) and Cahaba Medical Care - West End (Birmingham, Jefferson, AL) rural and urban underserved communities with the majority of the population living at or below the Federal poverty level. Total FTE position requested to be funded: 8 FTE positions requested to be funded under this program for AY 2023-2024: 8 (0-0-0-8) Rotation Sites: UAB Hospital, 1802 6th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35233. UAB is a world-renowned medical system and nationally ranked medical school, with whom we have a Master Affiliation Agreement. As the tertiary care center for Central Alabama, the variety and volume of clinical experience are maximal, and the faculty support is substantial (27 Hospitalists/26 Orthopedists). Finally, the educational impact on our rural primary care residency is substantial because this provides both an urban and a tertiary care experience. UAB Hospital - Highlands, 1201 11th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35205. Highlands is the downtown Birmingham 219-bed community hospital in the UAB system. In addition, our newest FMP is in the outpatient professional tower of this hospital. Bibb Medical Center, 208 Pierson #2918, Centreville, Bibb County, AL. Bibb Medical Center is the primary admitting hospital for the Cahaba Family Medicine Residency Rural Track. Additionally, this is the site where most continuity deliveries will occur for rural residents. UAB Medical West Hospital, 995 9th Avenue SW, Bessemer, Jefferson County, AL, is a member of the UAB Health System. This hospital is a core anchor hospital that hosts the only Family Medicine Inpatient Service (FMIS) that all 4 of our tracks (Rural, Urban, Highlands, and Frontier) participate in, as well as hosting one o
