Project Abstract Summary- Component 1 - SURVEILLANCE The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), School Health Services (SHS) Unit will utilize CDC-RFA-PS18-1807 grant funds to collect, analyze, and disseminate scientifically valid data on adolescent risk behaviors, including sexual risk behaviors, by utilizing the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS); and school health policies and practices by utilizing the School Health Profiles survey. The School Health Services Unit has over twenty-two years of experience coordinating, implementing, collecting, and obtaining weighted YRBS and Profiles data, as well as presenting and educating state and local stakeholders on data results and successfully utilizing the data for school level improvements. The School Health Services Unit is dedicated to maintaining weighted data collection in order to provide valuable, valid data sources for schools and communities in Arkansas. “Both of these surveys have benefited me and my colleagues by determining the health needs and areas of particular concern for school children within our state. Without this type of data, we are unable to plan and implement the programs that most benefit the current and future health of our most vital resource, the children and youth of Arkansas.” – Betty M.
