The Cherokee Nation Youth Risk Behavior Survey and School Health Profiles Surveillance project aims to improve youth health through quality school health surveillance programs; which will be used to better inform school health interventions. In the odd years of the project, Cherokee Nation Public Health will implement the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) which includes 16 Adverse and Protective Childhood Experiences (ACEs and PCEs) questions among a randomly selected sample of public high schools located throughout Cherokee Nation. In the even years of the project, Cherokee Nation Public Health will implement the School Health Profiles Survey among a randomly selected sample of public high school officials. Cherokee Nation Public Health will coordinate with the Oklahoma State Department of Health and the National YRBS in the implementation of surveys. Specifically, Cherokee Nation will coordinate implementation within the schools that are selected for both the Cherokee Nation surveys and the Oklahoma surveys or National YRBS surveys. Throughout the program, Cherokee Nation Public Health will evaluate the program’s progress in meeting the program goals, including attaining weighted data for both YRBS and Profiles Surveys. Cherokee Nation Public Health will establish and maintain an YRBS coalition of stakeholders, which includes schools and community coalitions, to garner support for YRBS administration. Cherokee Nation Public Health will continuously monitor participation in the surveys and determine facilitators and barriers to survey participation. Evaluation results will be used to improve participation in each subsequent survey cycle. Cherokee Nation Public Health will disseminate the results of the surveys to identified stakeholders and will use the results to improve school health interventions and monitor the impact of school health interventions.
