Purpose: South Carolina’s High-Impact HIV Prevention and Surveillance Programs for Health Departments is a comprehensive program that will utilize surveillance data to guide HIV prevention programs while ensuring resources align with the state’s HIV burden and reach areas of greatest need. SC’s programs will utilize high-impact prevention programs that focus on whole-person approaches and address social determinants of health to improve health outcomes for persons with HIV and persons vulnerable for acquiring HIV. DHEC will use strategies proven to be effective and which align with the goals of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS) and the Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) initiative.
Outcomes: The overarching goals of this proposal are to increase knowledge of HIV status and reduce late HIV diagnoses, reduce HIV transmission, improve linkage to HIV medical care and viral suppression, prevent new infections, increase HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylasis (PrEP) prescriptions among populations vulnerable for acquiring HIV, maintain elimination of perinatal transmission, improve responses to HIV clusters and outbreaks, improve use of HIV surveillance data, and sustain community partnerships to inform strategic planning and implementation.
Funding: The Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) seeks $8,876,928 annually for five years (prorated for the first budget year of ten months) to implement South Carolina’s High-Impact HIV Prevention and Surveillance Programs for Health Departments.
