Latinos are the largest ethnic minority group in the United States (U.S.), comprising 18% of theU.S. population in 2019; reaching 60 million, they are the fastest growing segment of thepopulation. Latinos, and particularly Latino sexual and gender minorities, are at increased riskfor HIV infection. Latinos account for more than a quarter of the new diagnoses of HIV infectionin the U.S. In fact, the prevalence rate of HIV infection for Latinos in 2016 was 2.5 times that ofnon-Latino-White, and the lifetime risk for HIV diagnosis among Latinos is over three times therate of non-Latino White. Latino populations, particularly those living in predominantly Latinocommunities, sexual and gender minorities, and Spanish-speaking Latinos are at increased riskfor infection, yet very few HIV awareness and prevention campaign are aiming this group. In thisproject, we aim at to disseminate Together campaign materials, messaging, and other CDCresources that support HIV prevention and in person and virtual events in partnership withHispanic-serving institutions of higher education and their communities. The team proposing theproject has unique expertise and entry into these groups and are well position to coordinateevents and delivery consistent, culturally appropriate HIV prevention messages.
