Maryland Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Program - The Maryland BRFSS program is applying for the CDC funding to collect 12,000-15,000 phone surveys in 2025, with at least 80% cell phone completions. The Maryland BRFSS program is located within the Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control (CCDPC) and will actively engage stakeholders, academic institutions, community organizations, and local health departments to inform public health choices and surveillance activities. Two mandatory strategies in this NOFO focus on the identification of two target underrepresented communities: 1) those with disabilities, and 2) those with food insecurity. This NOFO also requires, for the first time, an advisory committee; CCDPC will utilize the Maryland Advisory Council on Health and Wellness to serve this role. The advisory committee will review annual workplans and provide guidance on the strategic plan. By leveraging the collective expertise of committee members, CCDPC will effectively address and share emerging public health challenges, tailor data collection efforts to meet community needs, and maintain the integrity and reliability of the data collected. The Maryland BRFSS program will also engage existing CCDPC partners to reach the two priority underrepresented communities, including local health departments (LHDs) and Local Health Improvement Coalitions (LHICs) to best access the communities and broaden reach. Expected Outcomes: Short term outcomes: Increased monitoring of health-related behaviors, chronic health conditions, and use of preventative services. Increased knowledge and awareness of BRFSS data among underrepresented communities. Expanded communication and marketing campaigns with underrepresented communities’, partners, or advisory groups related to accessing the data Intermediate outcomes: Improved use of BRFSS data to guide public health actions and policies that promote healthy lifestyles among all population groups. Greater sharing and use of data among partners who promote health equity within underrepresented communities. Improved sharing and use of BRFSS data among traditional advocates. Long term outcomes: Enhanced health-focused policies at local, state, and federal levels, with special attention towards under-represented communities. Enhanced policies at local, state, and federal levels aims to boost health outcomes.
