Palau Enhancing Reviews and Surveillance to Eliminate Maternal Mortality - This application seeks to improve and build upon the efforts of the Ministry of Health and Human Services (MHHS) and its partners in addressing maternal mortality, and specifically to build capacity and improve systems to capture deaths related to and/or associated with pregnancy. The Ministry of Health and Human Services (MHHS) and its partners will continue to further efforts to reduce maternal-related deaths through timeliness, comprehensiveness, and availability of information on strategies for prevention of pregnancy-related deaths and reduction of disparities in pregnancy-related mortality. The applicant will support the existing efforts to prevent pregnancy-related deaths, reduce disparities among disproportionately impacted populations, and promote healthy pregnancy. The applicant and all its partners will take a comprehensive and coordinated approach to achieve these goals. The applicant will establish and strengthen partnerships within and outside the organization, locally, regionally, and internationally including clinics serving women with lower incomes, community-based health coalitions, other public health programs, private clinics, community women’s groups, Community Health Centers, other U.S. CDC funded programs (Diabetes Prevention and Control Program, Cancer Prevention and Control Program, ASTHO Hypertension Screening Program), and programs funded through other organizations (Maternal and Child Health Programs, Early Hearing Detection Intervention, Family Planning). Through a combination of strategies and collaborative efforts with partners, the applicant, and these critical partners will strive to increase timeliness, accuracy, and standardization of information on pregnancy-related deaths, increase engagement and cooperation between partners to communicate information on pregnancy-related deaths, and increase implementation of recommendations for at-risk population and populations that are disproportionately affected by pregnancy-related deaths. The applicant will maintain these critical partners in efforts to achieve the long-term outcomes of the project that will reduce maternal complications during and in the year after the end of pregnancy, eliminate disparities in complications of pregnancy, improve outcomes of the maternal health population, and eliminate preventable pregnancy-related deaths.
