Sexual and Gender Minority Cancer & Tobacco Network - The National LGBT Cancer Network proposes to run the Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) Cancer & Tobacco Network as one of the nine CDC-funded cancer & tobacco disparity networks. This project would focus on four main activity areas. First, we would invest in expanding the network of allies and experts who are connected to us and each other related to this topic area. This includes creating areas for virtual or physical connecting and convening of people from CDC-grantee organizations, expert organizations in these fields, and LGBTQI+ subject matter experts. Secondly, we would run an annual Community of Practice to build connection and expertise on this topic. Potential participants include the members listed above and organizations specializing in social determinants of health. Third, we would continue to provide a range of training and technical assistance to CDC-grantee and non-grantee organizations who are interested in better serving SGM people related to tobacco or cancer control. Fourth, we would act as expert advisors for groups interested in building public health promotion campaigns on these topics, as well as create some of our own materials for member organizations to deploy. Through these four arms of activities we intend to create the following outcomes: increased participation in the network by multi-sectorial stakeholders related to these fields; increased knowledge of resources available in this field and stakeholders building new resources; increased adoption of proven policy, systems, and environmental change interventions related to reducing the burden of tobacco use and cancer in this population.
