The purpose of this project is to improve the health and wellness of school-age children and adolescents in underserved and disproportionately affected communities among the Cherokee Nation Reservation. Cherokee Nation Public Health (CNPH) proposes to use the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model as an approach to collaboratively create system changes that promote student health and educational outcomes. CNPH will work to establish key partnerships to support tribal school health programs, promote dissemination and implementation of CDC school health guidelines, tools and resources through Professional Development (PD) and Technical Assistance (TA), and use school health action planning to implement physical activity, school nutrition, and school health policies, programs and services in partnership with Cherokee Nation local education agencies, schools and after school programs. The proposed project strategies and activities will expand and enhance existing tribal cross-collaborations and public health efforts that support healthier tribal citizens, schools and communities for this and future generations.
