Component 2 The impacts of COVID-19 have fallen unevenly across socio-demographics lines. Compared to White US residents, Latinx residents have 2.1 times greater case rates, Black residents have 2.8 times greater hospitalization rates, and American Indian residents have 2.4 times greater death rates. Data reported by the Hawaii State Department of Health shows that COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted Pacific Islanders, who account for just 4 percent of the state population, but 30 percent of all cases. Developing, implementing, and sustaining an equity-centered COVID response requires coordination across community, clinical, and public health sectors. Community Health Workers (CHWs) are an integral part of the COVID response, community resilience and ability to be prepared for future response efforts. The Envision Equitable Healthy Communities Training and Technical Assistance Center (EHC T/TA Center) will support Community Health Workers for COVID Response and Resilient Communities (CCR) grant recipients in collaboration with the CDC and all CCR Evaluation and Technical Assistance (ETA) grant recipients. CCR ETA partners will create a national plan for training and technical assistance (T/TA) that includes peer to peer learning based on a CCR grantee rapid needs assessment that determines the type, timeframe and modality for T/TA. Based on the finding of the assessment and on the expertise of the partners, appropriate training topics and peer to peer learning content will be identified; where there are gaps, T/TA content will be developed. The EHC T/TA Centers will bring together a CHW Council of community based CHWs, CCR grantee engaged CHWs, national expert CHWs, and CHW allied organizations to inform and guide the work. Coaches will work one on one with CCR grantees to ensure authentic CHW programming and to individualize T/TA approaches, bringing in expert consultants as needs are identified. Building trusting relationships across all involved partners and clear and accurate communication will be the foundation for ensuring grantee success. Our approach will provide CCR grantees with the knowledge and tools needed to sustain the CHW workforce and create an equitable response to COVID recovery while working in tandem with communities to strengthen resiliency.
