The Puerto Rico Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Information System (EHDI-IS) project main goal is to accurately identify, match, collect and report data on all live-births that are unduplicated and individually identifiable through the components of the EHDI process in accordance with Goals 1-8 of the CDC EHDI-IS Functional Standards. The EHDI-IS is the PR Department of Health (PRDOH) data repository system for all hearing screening results of newborns. As of 2019 births, the EHDI is collected 92% (18,745/20,430) of all live-births in Puerto Rico. The EHDI-IS project continues its collaboration with various offices within the PRDOH. The Office of Informatics and Advances Technology (OIAT) provides security and serves as the developer of the information system. There is a collaboration with the Demographic Registry Office (DRO) to exchange demographic and hearing screening data. In addition, the EHDI-IS is working with a conglomerate of private audiology clinics to facilitate their report to EHDI-IS by providing them guidance to improve their electronic record system to comply with EHDI-IS data items. The EHDI-IS cooperative agreement is expected to conclude in June 2024. In the first year, the EHDI-IS project is focusing in the optimization of the information system under four (4) strategies: 1- EHDI-IS Optimization; 2- Stakeholder Engagement; 3- Data Analysis and Evaluation; and 4- Data Submission and Dissemination. The outcome for the Year 1 of the cooperative agreement will be the development of the patient-level dataset. The enhancement of the capacity to report, analyze and timely use patient-level data will ensure D/HH infants receive timely diagnostic and intervention services.
