“Improving Timely Documentation, Reporting, and Analysis of Diagnostic and Intervention Data through Optimization of EHDI Surveillance Practices and Information Systems” The Puerto Rico Department of Health is submitting a new application under the funding opportunity announcement number CDC-RFA-DD20-2006: “Improving Timely Documentation, Reporting, and Analysis of Diagnostic and Intervention Data through Optimization of EHDI Surveillance Practices and Information Systems. The Puerto Rico Universal newborn Screening Program (PR-UNHSP) will use this funding to enhance and optimize its surveillance activities and information system through the standardized reporting by audiology clinics and EIS Programs. The capacity to report, analyze and timely use patient-level data will ensure D/HH infants receive timely diagnostic and intervention services. In 2017, the Puerto Rico Department of Health (PRDOH) was granted funds under the DD17-1701 NOFO for the development of a new EDHI-IS capable of accurately identifying, matching, collecting, and reporting data on all live births in accordance with Goals 2- 8 of CDC’s EHDI-IS Functional Standards. In January 2019, 33 birthing hospitals began using the new EHDI-IS hearing screening module to report all hearing screening test results. The new EHDI-IS diagnostic evaluation report module is being developed. Our goal is to implement the EHDI-IS diagnostic evaluation module by May 2020 and the EIS module development by June 2020, pending no major PR DOH operational disruptions due to the COVID-19 epidemic. This award will provide the PR-UNHSP the opportunity to: 1) optimize the EHDI-IS functionalities to improve the collection, management and efficient use of screening, diagnostic and intervention data in accordance with the EHDI-IS Functional Standards; 2) promote and support collaboration with key stakeholders (e.g. birthing hospitals, audiologists, and early intervention programs) around tracking and surveillance activities through stakeholder engagement, and providing technical assistance during the reporting process; 3) develop and implement a data quality assurance plan for the purpose of reaching and maintaining high levels of data quality for continuous PR-UNHSP improvement and 4) develop detailed data reports and disseminate relevant PR-UNHSP information to defined user groups, including internal and external partners and stakeholders.
