The Nebraska Comprehensive Suicide Prevention Project is a collaboration between the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, and Nebraska State Suicide Prevention Coalition. This collaboration includes behavioral scientists, epidemiologists, and many stakeholders representing a variety of interests and populations via the State Coalition. The purpose of the Nebraska project is to implement and evaluate a comprehensive public health approach to suicide prevention. The primary long-term outcome is to decrease the suicide death and attempt rates in Nebraska, particularly for adult males in rural areas who have the highest rate of suicide in the state. Three areas of emphasis are included in the project. 1) Increasing awareness of 988, risk and protective factors; 2) Implementing evidence-based suicide prevention activities across the state; and 3) Creating and implementing a sustainable, collaborative communication and dissemination plan in support of the state’s comprehensive suicide prevention plan. As a result of these activities, we expect short- and medium-term outcomes to support increased collaboration, use of data to inform strategy and vulnerable population selection, and awareness related to suicide prevention.
