Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council - Public Health Workforce Expansion in Indian Country - The Public Health Workforce Expansion in Indian Country (PHWEIC) program will employ multi-agency collaboration with Tribal Health Departments, Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, Wyoming Department of Health, and associated entities to strengthen American Indian public health systems and services in Indian Country. Specifically, PHWEIC will support Tribal Health Departments in providing professional development opportunities, and leverage partnerships between institutions and tribal Public Health Resources System and Services. PHWEIC’s underlying theme will be strengthening and bridging of multi-sector, results-driven partnerships. Which will serve not only as public health resources for the community, but as ambassadors for inter-agency collaboration and coordination. Acting as counselor for the public health level, PWHEIC will influence community-based findings and interventions through contractual work with Tribal Health Departments, State Health Departments, transportation agencies, law enforcement agencies, and others. PWHEIC will take a comprehensive approach to working with the RMTLC affiliated Tribes in Montana and Wyoming. RMTLC will work with each Tribe and all the Tribes collectively to develop community based approaches to public health and wellness, based on the unique needs of each Tribe and the guidance provided by Tribal health leaders and community steering committees. The overarching goal of the program is to have Tribes develop and strengthen their community based, community designed and community controlled public health services and programs. Through regular consultation with Tribal health leaders and local steering committees, this program will strengthen the quality, performance, and infrastructure of tribal public health systems, including workforce and programs and services. The program’s public health workforce development activities align with RMTLC’s multiple, ongoing efforts to promote sustainability while providing technical assistance to Tribes to develop local heath priorities. The PHWEIC goals and objectives complement those of the RMTEC’s current funding under one of the Tribal Public Health Capacity-Building and Quality Improvement Umbrella Cooperative Agreement, which is the Accelerating Public Health Data Modernization in Tribal Jurisdictions Project. PHWEIC will set the stage for continued multi-sector collaboration, effective dissemination of community-driven findings, and strengthen Tribal public health systems and services capacity in Indian Country.
