The Winnebago Comprehensive Healthcare System (WCHS) is requesting $1,583,881 in funds to support its WCHS COVID-19 Preparedness and Response program. WCHS will use these funds to support increase public health delivery capacity to deal with COVID-19. Capacity to mitigate effects of the coronavirus in those who develop COVID-19 while supporting general infection control measures for other patents and for WCHS staff will be enhanced through the acquisition of equipment, supplies, and retrofitted health care delivery space. These acquisitions will allow WCHS to enhance its emergency operations; communicate more efficiently with the general public as they attempt to safely access the Twelve Clans Unity Hospital and Winnebago Public Health Department campus; and adopt strategically-identified countermeasure and mitigation procedures. Infection control procedures will be instituted and/or enhanced, and quarantine and isolation strategies will be implemented for the safety of COVID-19 patients; those displaying other general health concerns; those potentially exposed to the coronavirus, including staff; and ? for all the listed categories ? family and other household members. These services will benefit Winnebago tribal members; residents of the village of Winnebago and the Winnebago Reservation; other American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) members who seek services, including Omaha tribal members whose reservation is adjacent to the Winnebago Reservation; and WCHS staff. Thurston Country Nebraska residents, both Native and Non-Native, will benefit from the enhanced emergency medical services possible through this funding opportunity. In addition, the significant AI/AN population in the nearest Metropolitan Statistical area, Sioux City, have established ties to WCHS attested by the approximately 2,400 AI/AN members with whom WCHS?s Urban Indian Program works. The number of people who will be served by the critical equipment and supplies this fu nding opportunity makes possible is significant. As positive cases in both the immediate area and throughout the region increase (as of May 30 2020, the Winnebago Reservation has identified 25 total cases with 1 death and the Sioux City region, even with incomplete reporting over three state boundaries, registered 4,565 positive cases and 60 deaths ? over 2.7% of the population), support made possible through the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act 2020 (P.L. 16-123) will make a significant difference in the lives of many.
