Project Abstract SummaryThis project continues the collaboration between Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD), Johns Hopkins Center for Child Health Research (CCHR), and Johns Hopkins Bayview, Infectious Disease Department. In Cycle 4 of the SSuN project this collaboration will:?Continue to extract data from Baltimore?s two sexual health clinics in accordance with SSuN protocols at the frequency specified. In addition, in this cycle the Maryland Department of Health, HIV/AIDS Surveillance program has agreed to complete a cross-tabulation of the sexual health clinic population with the Enhanced HIV/AIDS Registry System (EHARS) and return a file with the matched information to us up to monthly if needed at that frequency. ?We will continue the Phase II aspects of SSuN to get further information about the treatment, patient, and provider characteristics of a random sample of patients with gonorrhea. ?In addition, we will continue the Phase III aspects of the SSuN protocol by completing enhanced interviews on a random sample of persons from Baltimore City who are infected with gonorrhea. In this cycle, Baltimore City staff will be more involved in the Phase III interviews with responsibility for completing these interviews spread across the entire Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) staff. As has occurred in the previous two cycles we expect that participation in the SSuN project will:?Improve the quality of care and the care process in the sexual health clinics.?Improve the relationship between private medical providers and BCHD, and increase the proportion of providers who report gonorrhea morbidity and treatment for gonorrhea. ?Improve BCHD?s knowledge of the demographics and behaviors of persons contracting gonorrhea in Baltimore. ?Provide the opportunity to collaborate with other sites who are implementing the same protocols and share best practices from the SSuN sites across the U.S.
