The Illinois Department of Public Health (Department) will apply funds received from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to implement FOA PS19-1901, Strengthening STD Prevention and Control for Health Departments (PCHD) towards the prevention and containment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The continual increase of STIs in Illinois parallels trends occurring throughout the U.S. The Department's goals include increasing community and provider knowledge regarding prevention, containment, and appropriate treatment for STIs. The Department targets populations that are most affected by STIs with an emphasis on adolescents/young adults, people of color, men who have sex with men (MSM), and pregnant women. The Department works to maintain the strong partnerships it has cultivated with local health departments, school health centers, family planning agencies, large health plans, the medical community and HIV/AIDS prevention and care providers.
