The name of the project is the Scottsville Allen County Faith Coalition's Inc. STOP Act Grant. Its purpose will be to prevent and reduce alcohol among youth and young adults ages 12-20 in Allen County. The objectives of the project are to collect additional data on youth alcohol usage, increase the perception of risk by 10%, and reduce usage rates by 10%. The project will annually serve approximately 1600 middle and high school students, as well as 700 additional young adults living in the community, along with the total population through the media campaigns. According to the United States Census Bureau, Allen County has an estimated total population of 20,311 residents. Allen County is predominately a rural community with an extremely high poverty rate. According to the Allen County Public School District, over two-thirds of the student body is either on free or reduced lunch. The county is divided almost equally 49.3 % males and 50.7 % females. Allen County is predominately a Christian community with dwindling church attendance. There is also a growing gay, bi-sexual, and transgendered population in the county, mainly evident among students.
