Center for Trauma-Informed Adolescent Suicide, Self-harm, & Substance Abuse Treatment & Prevention - The Adolescent Suicide/Self Harm & Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) Center, with hubs in North Carolina and Pennsylvania and partners in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and California, will serve as a national resource and technical assistance hub to expand trauma-informed care for adolescents and transition-age youth ages 12-25 experiencing or at risk for suicide, self-harm, and substance use. ASAP will prioritize primary/integrated care, school, and juvenile justice settings and address military-involved youth and families. It will develop and evaluate trauma-focused triage and referral protocols; adapt and disseminate SAFETY-A; integrate trauma screening, family-centered brief suicide interventions, substance use screening, and trauma-informed substance use approaches; and train crisis and acute care personnel to prevent secondary traumatic stress. Technology-enhanced training, data-informed supervision, measurement-based care, fidelity monitoring, continuous quality improvement, and stakeholder input will support implementation. Annually, ASAP will train at least 400 providers to fidelity benchmarks, train at least 200 crisis workforce staff in secondary traumatic stress prevention, and provide at least 20 brief trainings or educational talks, totaling 2,000 providers, 1,000 crisis staff, and 100 trainings or talks. Based on current partner-site volume, the Center has the potential to improve care for more than 200,000 youth nationwide.
