Project Summary: The Northern Cheyenne Tribe 988 Tribal Response Program will collaborate with local 988 response centers and other service providers to achieve the goal of preventing and reducing suicidal behavior; reducing the impact of trauma; and promoting behavioral health among American Indians on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. This will be accomplished through comprehensive tribal needs assessment and planning; collaborative partnerships; trauma-informed training; and direct services.
Project Name: Northern Cheyenne Tribe (NCT) 988 Tribal Response Program
Population(s) to be served: American Indian (AI) individuals on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation who are at risk of suicide, who have made contact with a 988 crisis center, or who have attempted suicide.
The goal of the NCT 988 Tribal Response Program is “to prevent and reduce suicidal behavior; reduce the impact of trauma; and promote behavioral health among American Indians on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation through improved collaborations with local 988 response centers and other relevant service providers.”
Objective 1: By the end of project period, the NCT will conduct one (1) tribal readiness/needs assessment; one (1) comprehensive strategic plan; and one (1) sustainability plan; and will develop one (1) quality improvement plan focused on addressing gaps in crisis response services and preventing and reducing suicidal behavior on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation.
Objective 2: During the two-year project period, the NCT will enter into at least one (1) formal written Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) which includes both internal departments and external organizations for the purposes of preventing and reducing suicide on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation and improving response and follow-ups to 988 contacts originating from the reservation.
Objective 3: During the two-year project period, the NCT will provide culturally competent, trauma-informed training to at least one-hundred fifty (150) individuals (e.g., crisis call center staff, mental health related workforce, peer support specialists, and community health workers) for the purpose of preventing and responding to suicidal behavior in the Northern Cheyenne Tribal community.
Objective 4: During the two-year project period, at least thirty-six (36) individuals will be referred annually to mental health or related services after making contact with a 988 crisis center or other first responder; at least three (3) individuals will be screened annually; and at least three (3) individuals will receive mental health or related services annually.
Number of people to be served: 150 individuals will be trained and 72 individuals will be referred, screened, and/or receive direct services over the two-year project period. 60 people will be trained in year one and 90 will be trained in year two; 36 people will be referred, screened, and/or receive direct services annually.
