Louisiana State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) is managed by Well Ahead Louisiana (WAL) which is a part of Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), Office of Public Health (OPH), Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention and Healthcare Access (BCDPHA). To enhance the provision of the healthcare services to all Louisiana’s citizens, this program intends to contract with 17-20 healthcare clinicians each grant year to assist in the repayment of the clinician’s educational loans. For the purpose of recruitment under this program, eligible healthcare professionals include physicians (family practice, general practice, obstetrics/ gynecology, internal medicine, pediatrics), general psychiatry, dentists (DDS or DMD), physician assistants, nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, registered dental hygienists, psychologists, psychiatric nurse specialists, licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, health service psychologists (clinical and counseling), licensed clinical social workers and alcohol and substance abuse counselors. In exchange for these payments, the providers will agree to work full-time at a public and/or non-profit facility. WAL collaborates with team members out in the community as well as partners and has determined the following targeted populations to concentrate its focus: • Predominantly black rural and urban areas including primary care, dental and mental patients • Areas with high opioid use • Areas with high infection rates of HIV/Aids WAL will utilize the ten percent administrative allowance this grant cycle to procure a data evaluator who will capture data pre and post SLRP participation. WAL will use this to determine successes and areas of improvement in the outcomes that may need to be adjusted.
