Several SORH staff support WVSLRP including the Director, Evaluator, Workforce Programs Manager, and the Loan Repayment Coordinator. All funds will be disbursed for loan repayment, and the state will provide an additional $135,000.00. The WVSLRP offers medical loan repayment to primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, physician assistants, pharmacists, dentists, and nurses with a bachelors of science degree in return for an obligated service in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) in West Virginia for a non-profit employer. SLRP will pay for qualified government and commercial education loans obtained for medical school tuition expenses, reasonable educational expenses required by the medical school or training program, and reasonable living expenses, as determined by the Program. WVSLRP candidates must adhere to the following criteria: • Practice full-time clinical medicine that includes providing a full continuum of care with arrangements for after-hours and acute care. (Full-time is defined as 40 hours a week, 45 weeks a year. On-call time is not counted in the 40-hour week). • Agree to not discriminate against patients based on their ability to pay for health care services. • Complete a minimum two-year obligation for the first award. • Complete any other obligation for health professional service owed under an agreement with any other state or federal entity before beginning a service obligation un
der SLRP. WVSLRP will provide loan repayment to medical professionals in return for an obligation to work in rural areas of West Virginia. Loan repayments will be administered through a subrecipient grantee process. Each loan repayment has a service obligation of up to two years. The service obligations are intended to improve the availability of quality health care for rural underserved areas of West Virginia.
