Denver Indian Health and Family Services, Inc. ETHIC II Project - Our organization, Denver Indian Health and Family Services (DIHFS), is an Urban Indian Organization (UIO) that provides culturally appropriate care for American Indian and Alaskan Native (AI/AN) adults, children, and families in the Denver metropolitan area, including Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, Jefferson, and Weld Counties. Our organization was founded in 1978 as the result of a needs assessment conducted by the Denver Native Americans United that called for the co-location of medical services for the Indian community at one site; the provision of health education in addition to primary services; and the delivery of services in a manner that was comfortable to Indian patients. We provide a variety of services including primary care, dental care, behavioral health, health and wellness programs including diabetes prevention and management, and an on-site pharmacy and gym. We also help our clients enroll in health insurance and connect with community partners and resources. Currently and in the past, we have provided HIV/HCV/syphilis prevention, care, and/or treatment for patients with private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid and third-party governmental funds such as IHS Title V. Due to financial constraints, our capacity to provide these services to low-income, uninsured AI/AN individuals has been extremely limited. The provision of grant funds will allow us to provide treatment to low-income, uninsured AI/AN individuals and provide rapid testing for patients, insured or not, and the general public from a public health lens (AI/AN targeted general public, but not patients we are collecting insurance or patient information from) using our Mobile Health Unit. Our project aims to increase diagnosis of HIV, HCV, and STIs; increase linkage to care; increase HIV and suppression rates and HCV and STI treatment; and increase adoption of PrEP and DoxyPEP.
