The New Mexico Family Planning Program (NM FPP) establishes the overall goal of the telehealth grant project to enhance and expand the telehealth infrastructure and capacity of Title X Family Planning services to New Mexicans with a focus on low-income individuals, to increase access and narrow the health equity gap, especially in 15 rural/frontier counties. NM FPP aims to include six main components in their comprehensive telehealth initiative: purchase a novel client-engagement telehealth platform and develop customized pathways; train providers; substantiate mail-order service; contract with an OB-GYN/Family Planning/platform expert and a part-time pharmacist; evaluation; and marketing. Although the work plan focuses on the one-year duration of this grant funding, this telehealth project is an important starting point for a larger, more sustainable goal of expanding telehealth services and removing barriers for clients to access NM FPP Title X services that will continue and be further developed after the one-year pilot period to ultimately serve at least 50% of NM Department of Health Public Health Office (PHO) clients, statewide, by the end of year 5 to be in alignment with the five-year work plan proposed in the PA-FPH-22-001 “Title X Family Planning Service Grants” application. This is an important point as the first year of the telehealth project will be instrumental in establishing the foundation for continuation, further expansion, and development of sustainable and effective telehealth services for creating long term positive impacts to equitable access to high-quality family planning care in New Mexico that includes appropriate screenings, health education, resources, and mail-order hormonal contraceptive supplies.
