Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio-Summary of the Title X Project-Abstract
Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio (PPGOH) proposes a Title X Project to provide family planning services for low income women, men, and teens in the 24 county region of Ohio which include: Athens, Butler, Clark, Crawford, Cuyahoga, Delaware, Franklin, Hamilton, Hocking, Lorain, Lucas, Mahoning, Madison, Marion, Medina, Montgomery, Pickaway, Portage, Richland, Summit, Stark, Trumbull, Wayne, and Union counties.
PPGOH will provide Title X family planning services as a direct patient care provider at 15 physical locations, one virtual care telehealth center and a medical mobile health unit. Our sub-recipient, Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio region will also provide direct patient care at 4 physical locations and one virtual care telehealth center for a total of 21 health center sites .Staff will promote awareness of the Title X program with priority given to the most vulnerable area populations including racial and ethnic minorities, teens, non-English speakers, and women between the ages of 18-24. Planned Parenthood has been a provider of Title X services in these communities for more than 40 years and after a two year pause, is eager to re-enter the Title X network. These decades of service provide Planned Parenthood with the extensive knowledge of the needs of the communities and the opportunities to strengthen and build new collaborative partnerships.
In 2022, we plan to directly serve 57,500 women, men and teens. We estimate that more than two-thirds will have income under 150% of poverty and one-fourth will be under the age of twenty.
Family planning medical services provided by PPGOH as part of the Title X project include: physical exams, patient education, contraceptive services and a broad range of contraceptive methods and supplies; testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections; gender affirming care, pregnancy testing; natural family planning counseling; breast and cervical cancer screening; HIV risk assessment, testing and prevention education, and medical referral. We offer medical services and supplies on a sliding fee scale so there are no fees or partial fees depending on family size and income under 250% of poverty.
Through the Health Education & Outreach Department, the Ohio Center for Sex Education (OCSE), PPGOH will provide programming in middle and high schools, college and universities, community and faith based organizations, and informational sessions at local health fairs and community events in the Project service area. The health promotion work that the Health Education & Outreach Department currently conducts, serving more than 30,000 people, uniquely positions us to utilize existing partnership to increase awareness of the Project and to form new collaborations with community partners.
PPGOH coordinates family planning services with state and local health services through the Child and Family Health Service planning activities. We maintain referral mechanisms with prenatal services, expansive primary care, social services and other public funded services in each county.
