The State of Alaska, Department of Health & Social Services proposes to provide Title X-funded family planning and related reproductive health services through sub-recipient agencies located in two regions of Alaska: the Southern Kenai Peninsula, served by the Kachemak Bay Family Planning Clinic in Homer, Alaska; and in another region of Alaska with high unmet need for these services, to be determined through a new statewide solicitation of federally funded community health centers. Project goals and overall approach include: assuring that Title X clinics make high quality, low cost family planning & related preventive health services accessible in order to improve the overall health for all people in their service areas, with priority given to low income individuals; assuring the delivery of innovative, high quality family planning and related preventive health services that lead to improved reproductive health outcomes and overall optimal health in accordance with Title X statutes and regulations, OPA Priorities and Key Issues, Legislative Mandates, and national professional medical standards; and improve the health of individuals, families and communities in the Project service areas through outreach to, and partnerships with schools and community-based organizations, including faith-based and secular health & social services providers that work with vulnerable, at-risk, or hard-to-reach populations. The overall Project goal is to reduce Alaska’s unmet need for family planning and reproductive health services for all individuals, to decrease the number of unintended pregnancies, and to improve the likelihood of a healthy pregnancy and birth should conception occur. Estimated number of people to be served in Year 1 as a result of the award of this grant: 1,850.
