Nevada Primary Care Association (NVPCA) will strengthen and expand its Title X funded Reproductive Education and Care in Community Health Homes (REACCHH) program providing women, men, teens and families the ability to choose when or if they want to have children by supporting equitable, affordable, client-centered, and high-quality family planning services. This award will support the delivery of Title X services to 10,000 unique patients per year from April 1, 2022-March 31, 2027, which represents a 34% increase over the previous project period. We estimate that of the patients to be served in 2022-23 approximately 23% will be males; 51% will be at or below 100 FPL; 58% will be Hispanic; 10% Black or African American; 31% will be Limited English Proficient (LEP) and 30% will be under the age of 19.
The NVPCA REACCHH network during the next project year will consist of five FQHCs with 22 service sites. The service area includes the cities of Reno-Sparks (Washoe County); Las Vegas, Henderson and Mesquite (Clark County); Carson City (a consolidated municipality); Amargosa Valley (Nye County); and, the rural communities of Jackpot, Carlin, West Wendover, and Elko (Elko County). Additionally, NVPCA will advance the integration of family planning services into more economically and socially marginalized communities in Las Vegas through the utilization of mobile medical units.
Nevada’s FQHCs serve a population that is traditionally underserved by the health care system. In calendar year 2019, 96% of the Title X patients seen at a REACCHH clinic site had incomes at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level, 41% identified as Hispanic and 26% had limited English proficiency. Furthermore, FQHCs have extensive experience providing ancillary services such as connections to other community services, insurance enrollment, case management, and transportation to their patients, making these health centers an enduring fit for the Title X program.
In the next project period, the REACCHH program will 1) initiate two key projects to address historic disparities amongst economically and socially marginalized populations in terms of reproductive healthcare, while 2) the REACCHH network delivers high-quality reproductive healthcare to patients living in under-resourced communities. The key projects to improve health equity are to engage in a common clinical measure to screen, test and treat patients for syphilis, and to expand the array of services available to those eligible for Title X. First year accomplishments also include developing a Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion plan for this Title X program. This combination of efforts elevates the experiences and priorities of people and communities negatively impacted by historical disparities.
