WV Family Planning Program 2022-2027
The West Virginia (WV) Family Planning Program (FPP) is pleased to submit this competing proposal for funding under Title X of the Public Health Service Act and requests approval of a five-year project period (4/1/2022-3/31/2027). In offering family planning services, the FPP supports the mission of providing educational, medical, social, and referral services to assist individuals in determining the number and spacing of their children. The FPP currently maintains Memorandums of Understanding with 77 sub-recipients. Funding from this announcement would allow these 77 sub-recipients to offer quality family planning services in 121 service sites. The group of sub-recipients and clinical service sites were selected based on interest and expertise, capacity to expand services to meet demand, and the need for family planning services in the geographical area in which the site is located relative to existing FPP clinical service sites.
Health care inflation has far outstripped funding for clinical services, which are further tested as a result of the rising expense of contraceptives and technologies, expensive screening and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, and the cost of training and retraining qualified personnel. As this competing application is submitted, the FPP anticipates continued expansion of existing reproductive health services with special emphasis on advancing health equity, addressing disparity, furthering inclusivity, and providing the gold standard of health care. With the continued financial support of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Population Affairs, the FPP plans an eventful project period in the provision of family planning services to the population at risk of unintended pregnancy in WV, as well as those wishing to achieve pregnancy.
