The New Hampshire (NH) Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Division of Public
Health Services (DPHS), Maternal and Child Health (MCH), NH Family Planning Program (NH FPP) has provided quality family planning and reproductive health services to its citizens for approximately 50 years. NH DHHS partners with multiple independent healthcare agencies to ensure seamless provision of high quality care to all regions of NH. Currently, NH DHHS contracts with four sub-recipients for the provision of Title X family planning and related health services.
The program yearly delivers family planning and related services to thousands of individuals throughout the state. In State Fiscal Year (SFY), 3,489 individuals received reproductive health services through the NH FPP . As compared to the nation, NH’s has a relatively low rate of sexually transmitted infection (STI)/ human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. In 2019, the State had the lowest teen birth rate in the country.
NH has a population of 1.3 million, including 257,374 women of reproductive age with more than 65,000 women that are in need of safety net services and 18.7% of the population under 18 years of age. For the project period of 2022-2027, the NH FPP will continue to contract with health agencies to provide Title X family planning services to vulnerable, low-income, marginalized, and underserved individuals throughout NH. This project period will bring a heightened focus on disparities and health inequity among Hispanic and Latino populations, the uninsured, adolescents, those needing confidential services, and persons at increased risk of unintended pregnancy. Additionally, the program will focus on efforts to reduce STI/HIV infection for those at an increased risk due to substance misuse and will also increase outreach efforts to recruit clients to the program. The NH FPP partners with rural and urban agencies to ensure that access to affordable sexual and reproductive health care is available in all areas of the state.
