Planned Parenthood Cameron County is proposing to provide Title X family planning services through our two health centers in the Lower Rio Grande Valley in South Texas. We have been providing high-quality family planning services to the community since 1966.
Planned Parenthood Cameron County, a 501(c)(3) corporation and subsidiary of Planned Parenthood South Texas (PPST), operates two health centers on the U.S./Mexico border. We are dedicated to improving access to sexual and reproductive health care in a region that is medically underserved. We focus on science-based, compassionate, equitable care, and we treat all clients with dignity and respect for their choices and values.
Contraception is our most accessed service. During this project, we will provide a broad range of medically approved birth control methods, including the birth control pill, the birth control shot, male condoms, hormonal implants, copper intrauterine devices, hormonal intrauterine devices, the patch, the ring, diaphragms, and emergency contraception. We also provide information about fertility awareness-based methods.
We provide testing for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV (screening and testing), herpes, trichomoniasis, and HPV, as well as hepatitis B screening. We provide treatment for chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, and trichomoniasis, and refer to the health department for syphilis and HIV. We also provide PreP for HIV prevention.
Our Stop Cervical Cancer program includes HPV vaccines, cervical cancer screenings, colposcopies and biopsies.
We provide pregnancy testing and non-directive options counseling at all sites. At no time have we ever accepted funding that forced us to limit health education to clients about their pregnancies. We offer services to help clients achieving pregnancy and basic infertility services. We also provide pelvic exams, clinical breast exams, and mammogram referrals.
We screen for intimate partner violence, alcohol and other drug use, tobacco use, depression, BMI, blood pressure, and diabetes at all sites. We also screen for HPV immunizations and offer these at all sites, as well as screen for and refer for MMR, TDAP, rubella, and TB.
Having recently launched primary care services at all sites, we screen and treat for conditions common in our client populations, such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, thyroid disorders, depression and anxiety, anemia, asthma, weight management, and more. If more intensive care is needed for advanced conditions, clinician refer clients to the appropriate specialists.
Services are provided on a sliding fee scale based on family size and income so that people without insurance or the resources to cover the full cost of their care can access essential services. People who live at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level are offered progressive discounts based on need.
Our promotora program, Habla con tu Hermana, educates the community about family planning and other health care services and navigates clients to health care at Planned Parenthood Cameron County at no cost to them.
