H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, Inc (“Moffitt”) is a national leader in innovative cancer research and is the only National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Florida. Its researchers and clinicians function at the forefront of revolutionizing technology and treatment, contributing to the prevention and cure of cancer within Florida, nationally, and worldwide. Moffitt begun building a 775 acre global innovation center, named Speros FL, in partnership with Pasco County and state officials that will offer a patient centered experience with concierge-like services, providing high tech and precision treatment capabilities and research at the forefront of cancer care. Along with new outpatient cancer treatment and proton therapy facilities, a new wet laboratory research building will anchor the first phase in development of Speros FL. Moffitt broke ground in January 2023 on the Moffitt Center for Innovation, a 300,000 square foot collaborative cancer research and life sciences facility that will house approximately 60 transdisciplinary faculty including cancer biologists, bioengineers, chemists, and structural biologists, and will serve as a magnet for academic, community, and industry partners engaging in the next generation of research, prevention, and care of cancer patients and survivors. Moffitt is requesting federal funding to support, in part, the construction of the Moffitt Center for Innovation research building. This support will provide the funds for constructing the literal and figurative foundation of research at Speros FL and will be used towards the cost of pouring the building’s foundation. This project is overseen by Moffitt’s Planning, Design, & Construction team with executive sponsorship by Dr. Elsa Flores, Associate Center Director of Basic Science. The principal investigator of this important project is: Elsa R. Flores, PhD 12902 Magnolia Drive Tampa, Florida 33612 813-745-147
