Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending - Construction - For this application, Methodist Le Bonheur Community Outreach (MLCO) is requesting funding for the construction of two emergency medical services (EMS) ambulances on the behalf of Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. These EMS ambulance vehicles will transport children in the Memphis Statistical Area (MSA), which includes over 10 counties in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi and has an approximate pediatric population of 325,000 children and youth. Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and the only comprehensive care pediatric hospital serving the Mid-South region. The Le Bonheur emergency room treats roughly 90,000 children and pediatric patients annually, averaging 200 patients in a single 24-hour period. Pedi-Flite, the emergency transportation team at Le Bonheur, transports approximately 4,000 neonatal and pediatric patients annually. This funding will support the construction of two EMS ambulances. These ambulances will follow traditional equipment standardization requirements for emergency vehicles but will also be outfitted with specific pediatric equipped at the request of the Pedi-Flite team. This specialized equipment will include a laryngoscope system, the uses of both are detailed in the narrative. Barbara Stewart, Director of Emergency Services at Le Bonheur, and the Pedi-Flite team will be responsible for the planning and design of the ambulances. Ms. Stewart will be responsible for the solicitation of bids and awarding contacts, as well as the oversight of the construction period and any correspondence between the vendor and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
