The Maine Office of the Attorney General (ME OAG) in coordination with the Maine Bureau of Insurance (ME BOI) will contract with the Consumers for Affordable Health Care Foundation (CAHCF), an independent non-profit organization, to implement Maine’s designated Consumer Assistance Program (ME CAP). The goal of ME CAP is to build a “one-stop” resource, for health care consumers in need of assistance, by coordinating and enhancing the services currently available through three separate entities: CAHCF, ME OAG and ME BOI. An award of $135,000 will enable ME OAG to oversee grant functions and will afford CAHCF the opportunity to develop, expand, and implement ME CAP services. ME CAP will assist consumers, both by phone and through walk-in service, with filing complaints and appeals through ME BOI, and will provide information regarding external appeals processes.
