As a consortium, RMTLC is focused on the health and well-being of its constituent tribes, families, and children, including tribal members who reside in large urban areas in Montana. RMTLC has an extensive background working with Tribes in the Region collaborating with Tribal Leaders, Education, Social Services, Medical and Health, Law Enforcement Tribal Courts. Central to our values, RMTLC attempts to implement balanced coordinated community approaches to socioeconomic and health issues emphasizing human resource development, recovery and restorative services, substance abuse prevention and community wellness.
In this project, RMTLC will take a multidisciplinary and balanced approach to the development of “coordinated community response” approaches to Domestic and Sexual violence among our affiliated Tribes and the urban Indian population served by Urban Indian Health Clinics throughout Montana. RMTLC plans to assist Tribes, and the Urban Indian Centers in Montana, in the development comprehensively coordinated community-based approaches to the prevention and treatment of domestic and sexual violence. RMTLC will provide training and TA to help participating Tribes and UIHCs implement evidence-based approaches, while integrating Indigenous “best practices” (i.e., sweat ceremonies, talking circles, drumming, singing, visioning, lodge teachings, group activities, etc.), into their site-based prevention activities. RMTLC will recruit a voluntary advisory committee to oversee in-service training and to provide quarterly feedback to the project. In so doing, we will strengthen the network among Tribes, UIHCs and key stakeholders in law enforcement, the courts, shelters, and treatment centers.
In short, RMTLC plans to assist its affiliated Tribes in Montana and Wyoming and the Urban Indian Centers in Montana develop a comprehensively coordinated community-based response to Domestic and Sexual Violence in each of their communities. The project will also help Tribes and UIHCs develop culturally informed prevention and treatment approaches to domestic and sexual violence.
