Mana 'Olelo Project - Mana 'Olelo Project by Mana Maoli aims to increase Hawaiian language fluency through music education for 100 students in grades K-12 at 11 partner schools across Hawaii. Over three years, the project will develop and implement Hawaiian language learning resources integrated with music instruction. The project includes creating 24 language learning resources, including video lessons and curriculum modules, while providing professional development for teachers. Students will participate in year-long music classes that incorporate Hawaiian language instruction, with the goal of increasing their language fluency by 30% as measured by the Mana 'Olelo Assessment. The project addresses the critical need to preserve and revitalize the Hawaiian language, as there are currently less than 30,000 fluent speakers remaining. Through this innovative approach combining music and language education, Mana Maoli aims to contribute to the survival and continued vitality of the Hawaiian language while creating sustainable resources that can benefit the broader community.
