ROCKY BOY CREE LANGUAGE NEST PROJECT - Project Goal: To implement an effective, culturally appropriate, Cree Language Nest for infants and toddlers, including their parents/guardians, to promote fluency in the Cree language among our youngest tribal members as a means to reverse the decline in the numbers of Cree speakers in our population therefore preserving the Cree language on Rocky Boy???s Indian Reservation for future generations.
Objective 1: By the end of Month 4, Rocky Boy Cree Language Nest Project staff, in partnership with Rocky Boy Early Head Start, will initiate the Cree Language Nest Project at Rocky Boy Early Heard Start, as evidenced by the finalizing the curriculum, creation of staff training plans and participant , staff hiring, orientation, and training, as well as training supply acquisition, two (2) fully equipt rooms, meeting agenda/minutes, program records, and evaluation results.
Objective 2: During the Project period of September 30, 2010 through September 29, 2013, Rocky Boy Cree Language Nest Project staff will provide Cree language instruction for at least 24 Chippewa Cree children, ages zero (0) to three (3), for an average of at least 500 hours per year per student, through the implementation of two (2) Cree language nest immersion classrooms at the Rocky Boy Early Head Start, as evidenced by attendance records, Cree language print materials, pre/post test results, program records, and evaluation results.
Objective 3: During the Project period of September 30, 2010 through September 29, 2013, Rocky Boy Cree Language Nest Project staff will provide Cree language instruction to at least 36 parents/guardians of children participating in the Cree Language Nest on a weekly basis, as evidenced by course records, attendance records, pre/post tests, and evaluation results.
