The Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM) is proud to submit the state’s application to the Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) Model Funding Opportunity. This application outlines how Mississippi’s Division of Medicaid (DOM) plans to build upon its existing work across maternal healthcare delivery and community settings to expand access to high-quality care and reduce disparities. Through TMaH, Mississippi hopes to accelerate this critical transformation and ensure a health equity lens is applied, fostering a collaborative approach across three identified pillars. Primary goals for Mississippi’s future state of maternal care align with the strategies outlined in the TMaH Model and are listed below:
• Pillar 1: Enhance access to maternal care by assessing the state’s midwifery workforce capacity, exploring the impact of doulas and community health workers on maternal and infant health outcomes, expanding data collection and interoperability to build collaborative, data-driven care models, and implementing medical and social risk assessments to drive risk appropriate care.
• Pillar 2: Improve maternal health quality and safety by expanding group perinatal care, supporting AIM patient safety bundles, promoting the "Birthing-Friendly" designation, and enhancing telehealth and postpartum nurse home visits for comprehensive support.
• Pillar 3: Promote whole-person care through value-based payment incentives aimed at reducing severe maternal morbidity, adopting community-based approaches, and engaging local organizations to ensure transparency and accountability in care delivery.
Mississippi is requesting $17 million over a 10-year project period to support the goals and milestones outlined in its application.
