Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training - Since 2009, the Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training (CCTST), a partnership between the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, has catalyzed clinical and translational research across Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, providing state-of-the-art resources, and supporting a robust infrastructure designed to accelerate innovative clinical and translational science (CTS). In CCTST 4.0, we will transform the CCTST into an integrated Clinical and Translational Learning System. Through our reimagined system, we will address key scientific roadblocks and advance CTS to get more treatments to all people more quickly. We will build on prior successes and introduce innovative CTS approaches across our region and nationally. The vision of CCTST 4.0 is to be an integrated system catalyzing innovative CTS and training to drive excellent health outcomes. To achieve this vision, our mission is to accelerate the development, dissemination, and implementation of innovative clinical and translational discoveries that improve health across the lifespan. Our six proposed goals align closely with NCATS priorities and highlight the CCTST’s distinct strengths in learning health systems, community engagement, and expanding opportunities for all individuals to achieve their highest level of health and well-being: 1) Advance CTS across the lifespan by developing, demonstrating, and disseminating scientific and operational innovations for improved effectiveness and efficiency of clinical translation from discovery to practice; 2) Facilitate partnerships, collaborations, and learning health systems to accelerate translational science locally, regionally, and nationally; 3) Develop, demonstrate, and disseminate innovative research programs and partnerships across institutions and communities to deliver the benefits of translational science to all people more quickly. 4) Optimize, implement, and disseminate scientific and operational processes that increase the quality, safety, efficiency, effectiveness, and informativeness of clinical research; 5) Provide a local, regional, and national system to build precision health methods for rapid response to urgent public health needs; 6) Develop, demonstrate, and disseminate CTS training programs for a multidisciplinary and resilient research workforce committed to improving the health of people and communities. The CCTST is poised to function as the primary academic home for clinical and translational science across the tristate region, seamlessly integrating with our regional healthcare systems. It will provide crucial support for implementing and disseminating methods to translate discovery into practice by prioritizing bidirectional community engagement, leveraging data science, and building a skilled research workforce to achieve health for all. The CCTST’s extensive network, experienced leadership, high-functioning infrastructure, and robust community-based collaborations position us to advance clinical and translational science within a rigorous learning system.
