Project Title: State Maternal Health Innovation Program and Data Capacity Program Organization name: Tennessee Department of Health Address: 710 James Robertson Parkway, Nashville TN 37243 Project Director: Rachel Heitmann Phone number: 615-741-0368 Email: Rachel.Heitmann@tn.gov Website: https://www.tn.gov/health.html Grant program funds requested: $1,000,000 per year Description of Proposed Project: The Tennessee Maternal Health Innovation Program aims to improve maternal health outcomes through establishing a state-focused maternal health task force, improving maternal health data and surveillance, improving the collection, reporting and analysis of AIM data and promoting innovation in maternal health service delivery. This project will address identified needs regarding maternal health service delivery through community engagement and workforce training. Proposed Services Tennessee will build on its Maternal Mortality Review (MMR) Program, established in 2017, to identify and review maternal deaths through a comprehensive, standardized process. Tennessee will build on its MMR Action Team, which was established following the release of the first state annual report in February 2019, to develop a needs assessment and strategic plan to continue the process of implementing the recommendations put forward. Tennessee will build infrastructure to support AIM data collection. Tennessee will focus on implementing innovative strategies to address identified critical gaps in maternity services including creating and disseminating patient education tools on the early warning signs and symptoms of an obstetric emergency, implementing a social media campaign focused on maternal health lived experiences and providing training on maternal health topics identified by the needs assessment. Population to be served The populations served by this grant include women of childbearing age and the maternal health workforce.
