Alaska HPP Application - State of Alaska Department of Health Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) Project Abstract Summary The State of Alaska (SOA) Department of Health (DOH) is dedicated to increasing state, tribal, and local ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from medical surge events, public health emergencies and disasters, natural and human caused. Alaska’s HPP application strives to achieve enhanced outcomes to help preserve and protect the health of Alaskans before, during, and after events that stress or exceed the day-to-day medical capacities and capabilities within the state. This application focuses on enhancing and strengthening relationships with critical health care system stakeholders and key partners to coordinate planning, streamline communications, and leverage finite resources and critical infrastructure to prepare for and mitigate emergencies and thus reduce loss of life. Utilizing the HPP funding and framework, the state will strive to enhance our preparedness capabilities through continued support, collaboration, and mutually beneficial engagement with the Alaska Statewide Healthcare Coalition (ASHCC). Anticipated outcomes from this ongoing partnership during this funding period are as follows: • Expanded statewide engagement and multidirectional information sharing with critical access hospitals, rural/frontier medical resources, and geographically isolated communities utilizing technology, communication redundancies, and culturally appropriate methodologies • Incorporation of resources and expertise to expand awareness and inclusion of specialty care clinics, telemedicine, and alternate healthcare delivery systems to expand access and bolster emergency preparedness capacity • Continued support and expansion of Trauma systems and EMS engagements to maintain and grow statewide capacity to support and effectively respond to medical surges • Incorporation of lessons learned, and processes developed to respond to large scale public health emergencies, infectious disease responses, and sustained medical surge operations through implementation of action items and improvement plans identified in after-action reports (AARs) from the previous funding period • Continued growth, incorporation, and development of processes and considerations to address gaps and needs of communities most impacted by disasters Utilizing HPP funding the State of Alaska DOH will continue to progress and improve statewide healthcare readiness and response, bolster ongoing coordination and cooperation, and increase access and awareness of healthcare resources and capabilities to respond to medical surge incidents, improve continuity of healthcare delivery, and mitigate gaps for vulnerable and underserved populations within the state.
