Connecticut Department of Agriculture - Maintenance of the Animal Feed Regulatory Program Standards - 2025 - CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE 450 Columbus Blvd, Suite 702 | Hartford, Connecticut 06103 | 860.713.2500 www.CTGrown.gov Department of Regulatory Services Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity Employer Project Abstract: Connecticut Department of Agriculture Conformance and Maintenance with the Animal Feed Regulatory Program Standards (AFRPS) Since the beginning of the Animal Feed Regulatory Program Standards (AFRPS), Connecticut Department of Agriculture (DoAg) has been devoted to developing, maintaining and improving the Connecticut Animal Feed Program and helping achieve a nationally integrated food safety system. A 5- year AFRPS Cooperative Agreement that concluded on June 30, 2025 helped DoAg drastically improve the Connecticut Animal Feed Program by establishing standard operating procedures for each of the standards, establishing a risk-based inspection program, establishing an online registration, inspection and risk assessment, standardize animal feed sampling, and outreach. Through the original AFRPS Maintenance Cooperative Agreement, DoAg maintained, updated and improved the standard operating procedures and the Feed Program as necessary for the last 5 years. We are current applying for an additional 3-year term to maintain and improve the Connecticut Animal Feed Program. The specific goal of this continued funding with the AFRPS Maintenance Cooperative Agreement will help DoAg to continue our efforts to improve the Connecticut Animal Feed Program and advance efforts at achieving a nationally integrated food safety system. In conjunction with a feed sampling contract, we will be conducting inspections on applicable feed manufacturing firms in Connecticut, collaborate with other states and federal agencies on feed related issues, conduct audits, complete animal feed trainings and continued education, collecting feed samples and conducting complaint investigations along with other animal feed related duties. 1
