RFA-FD-24-014: PROJECT SUMMARY ABSTRACT
Strengthen regulatory systems to improve global food and medical product quality and safety.
The overall goal of this continued Cooperative Agreement is to strengthen regulatory systems to
improve global food and medical product quality and safety. The project aims to achieve oversight and
build capacities for regulatory oversight in WHO Member States; generate the required international
framework for global coordination of such regulatory oversight; facilitate and ensure scientific
collaboration and networks to advance global access - and throughout these efforts, support
development of science-based and data-driven norms, standards, guidance and approaches to guide
future actions in the area of food and medical product quality and safety.
In line with the Funding Opportunity Announcement RFA-FD-24-014, the Cooperative Agreement will
be achieved through scientific and technical collaboration between WHO and FDA under three
components and seven related research objectives as described in further detail under the Project Plan
in the Research Strategy.
The project will be implemented over 60 months, through 12-months’s phases; it will be managed and
implemented by a Project Management Team and technical staff in WHO Headquarters, regional and
country offices under the overall lead of the Principal Investigator (Mr Hiiti Sillo) and implemented in
collaboration with ministries of health, national regulatory authorities, national and professional
associations, UN agencies and other relevant partners. WHO draws on a wide network of National
Professional Officers in ministries of health worldwide; WHO Collaborating Centres and non-state
actors in official relations with WHO.
