Advancing Equity in Adolescent Healthy through Evidence-Based Teen Pregnancy Prevention in Lancaster, South Carolina - The lead agency, The Children’s Council will oversee the project, along with support from a network of over 40 public, private, civic, corporate and faith-based entities working together over the past two decades to address problem youth behaviors such as teen pregnancy, substance abuse, dropout, violence and gang affiliation. Based on a comprehensive community assessment, systems mapping, and input from key community stakeholders, the proposed evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention programs comprised of several strategies: Setting One: School Making A Difference addresses leverage point for every 7th grade student in five target middle schools. Positive Prevention Plus addresses leverage point for every 9th grade student in four target high schools. Setting Two: University 17 Days addresses leverage point of 1st year college students 19 and under. Setting Three: Residential Care Possessing Your Power addresses leverage point for every youth that resides at the Lancaster Children’s Home. Setting Four: Parents / Community Positive Youth Development Component will utilize the Love Notes curricula, along other curricula to develop pro-social skills and leadership through school-based campaigns to address and promote healthy teen dating, mental health, community service and philanthropy. Parent Outreach Community Awareness Campaign: A partnership with a local cable access station to produce 12 public service announcements and nine thirty-minute broadcasts.
