OIC of South Florida (OIC) proposes to use grant funds to replicate a program, Love Notes 3.0-Evidence Based, proven effective through rigorous evaluation to reduce teenage pregnancy, behavioral risk factors underlying teenage pregnancy, or other associated risk factors and eligible for replication (e.g., curriculum, interventions, etc.). The project will target 13,750 youth, ages 13-19, as well as their families, over the course of the 3-year grant in public middle schools and high schools in 8 zip codes in Broward County, FL with high teen birth and STD rates, and other characteristics associated with teen pregnancy such as high poverty and unemployment rates. In additon to the effective program, Love Notes , OIC will offer needed support services or referrals to youth & parents/caregivers; positive youth development activities through its All A’s framework to help develop youth protective factors; Parent /Caregiver Workshops: to educate parent/caregivers on helping their children build protective factors and strive for optimal health; and a Youth Leadership Development Initiative to provide intensive training for Youth Leadership Council members, to help them take the lead in promoting norms involving prevention of high risk behavior & promotion of optimal health in the target community. AMTC & Associates will provide Performance Measurement and Evaluation services for the project. Broward County Public Schools will provide access to OIC to deliver the effective program. OIC will work with key supportive service partners SunServe, Florida Department of Health in Broward County, Chrysalis Health, Trauma Resolution Center, Covenant House Florida, and 2-1-1 First Call for Help to help youth address risk factors and build protective factors in order to promote optimal health. In addition, the OIC Community Advisory Group (CAG) and Youth Leadership Council (YLC) will provide stakeholder representation, oversight, and input for project implementation.
