The St. John Fisher College SIBRT Student Training Project will deliver the SBIRT curriculum to 534 graduate students enrolled in three health care professions: Nursing, Pharmacy, and Mental Health Counseling. Approximately, 178 students will be trained on an annual basis. The SBIRT curriculum will be embedded into existing core courses of the SJFC Nursing, Pharmacy, and Mental Health Counseling programs. It will be culturally relevant recognizing the needs of for veterans, underserved rural and urban populations, and adolescents and adults of African- American and Latino descent. Students from the three disciplines will be brought together for inter-professional training, using simulation scenarios and standardized patient interactions, and will have supervised practice in subsequent clinical practice. Coordinated Care Services, Inc. will provide consultation expertise in the areas of cultural and linguistic competence and Substance Use Disorders (Motivational Interviewing/Trauma-Informed Care/SBIRT). SBIRT training, through an online format and learning collaborative, will also be extended to 36 faculty members and up to 350 Rochester-area partners who serve as clinical sites for pharmacy, nursing, and mental health counseling students. The use of evaluation data and continuous quality improvement processes throughout the duration of the project will be used to make adjustments to and enhance the curriculum design.
