WestCare Georgia is requesting funding for The Woman's Place to provide gender specific, trauma informed care to 75 women veterans and other minority women ages 18 years or older each year assessed with a substance use disorder and/or are diagnosed with a co-occurring mental health disorder and at risk of, or living with, HIV/AIDS, or 225 over three years. Targeted women are African American, Hispanic/Latina, and other racial/ethnic minorities; and include heterosexual, lesbian, and bisexual women, women who have previously been incarcerated, and women and their significant others when appropriate. Project goals are to 1.) Reduce HIV infection and transmission rates; 2.) Address the impact of violence and trauma on women's increased risk of SA and HIV infection; 3.) Increase access to treatment and HIV/Viral Hepatitis services, including testing; 4.) Educate and empower racial/ethnic minority women to increase their awareness of safer sex practices and make informed decisions about their behavioral health, including trauma-related HIV risk-behaviors; and 5.) Implement evidence-based interventions. The goals will be accomplished using the chosen evidence-based practices/curriculums Motivational Interviewing, Seeking Safety, and RESPECT. The program will serve clients in the Metropolitan Atlanta area.
