The Treatment Enhancement Project will enhance treatment services for individuals enrolled in the Birmingham Municipal Drug Court, which is one of the nation's oldest municipal drug courts. The project will serve a total of 300 individuals- 100 per year for three years. The population of focus will be low-income adults with a substance use or co-occurring and substance use and mental disorders arrested for misdemeanor offenses in the City of Birmingham. The project will provide evidence-based services including: l) the Matrix Model of intensive outpatient therapy, 2) cognitive-behavioral tl1erapy, 3) integrated services for individuals with co-occurring disorders, 4) case management, and 5) peer recovery support. The demographic profile of the population of focus include: Race-78% will be African-merican, Ethnicity-7% will be Latino, Language-95% will speak English and 5% will speak Spanish as their primary language, Gender-75% will be male, Age-42% will be 18-34, 50% will be 35-54, and 8% will be 55 and over.
