Marin County Adult Drug Court Enhancement Grant - The Marin County Adult Drug Court program will expand and establish targeted services for young offenders, men and women aged 18 to 33. The need is based on an examination of the emerging trends in the local offender population and Court data. New interventions are needed to address the use of opiates, and prescription drug abuse. The interventions include expanding the use of evidence based assessment tools, including an assessment for histories of trauma, and linking participants with age-specific substance abuse education, life skills training, and peer supports. Program design features focus on Cognitive Behavioral Treatment and relational supports to improve motivation and engagement. The ADC is post-adjudication and in operation since 2001. This project will serve 50 participants a year, 150 over the grant period. Treatment is designed to last 12 months, followed by continuing social supports in a peer-led community network. The ADC team has identified the following goals and objectives: improve treatment outcomes for opioid using/abusing offenders, improve the retention of young adults in treatment, and expand access to services that improve health and wellness and reduce disparities, and strengthen cross system collaboration and quality improvement efforts with improved use of technology and data analysis. The project will use additional tools to identify trauma, with referrals to Seeking Safety for treatment and support for a trauma informed system of care, use the Matrix Model and young adult Thinking for a Change groups to address substance use and criminal thinking, provide participants with integrated health care and viral testing in a medical home, provide access to Medication Assisted Therapies and medication management if needed, support and strengthen gender and ethnic/racial responsivity, and expand outreach, community linkages, and Recovery Support Services, with a focus on young adult activities to improve motivation and sustain engagement.
